Composer David Bobrowitz, in this very entertaining work, finds a perfect way to make playing scales fun while painting a musical picture of the step-saving device of the title. Both acro and pizzicato techniques are used here, along with some easy pointillistic figures.

This "change of pace" piece is fun to play, fun to listen to, and has important educational value.
