Edge of Winter is an enthralling piece from start to finish! A slow reflective opening contrasts with more energetic later sections, keeping players engaged throughout. The lyrical beginning portrays the quiet calm after all the leaves of Autumn have fallen, and winter is "on the cusp" in the cold north.
Next an uplifting fast section depicts the excitement of winter's first arrival, that first fresh snow is so welcome! But follows an intensely dark minor contrasting passage where the cold and snow is simply "too much" and becoming too heavy and hard to handle. However, after this episode of winter's worst attack, the happy uplifting melody returns to remind us that Spring is around the corner. This piece is perfect for your next winter concert!
