Land of the Cyclops is inspired by Homer's The Odyssey and the timeless "hero's journey," Land of the Cyclops takes young musicians and audiences alike on an epic adventure. Listeners will imagine stormy seas, treacherous caves, and the one-eyed giant who challenges Odysseus and his crew.

This piece was written especially for my own students and is designed to give every section of the orchestra a moment in the spotlight. Along the way, players will explore a wide palette of colors and textures—including imaginative percussive effects created right on their strings, adding a sense of mystery, danger, and excitement to the music. Above all, Land of the Cyclops is about storytelling through music and conquering the odds. Whether battling the monster, sneaking through the shadows, or celebrating victory, the music invites performers and audiences to become part of the journey.
