Procession and Dance
Composer Georg Philipp Telemann
Arranger J. Cameron Law
Adapting the first and last movements of Telemann's "Sonata in D Major", the arranger has here crafted a work accessible for younger orchestras and a fine choice for concert or festival use. Regal and stately in nature, Procession takes advantage of the conversational qualities inherent in Telemann's writing and give the melody alternately to both the upper and lower string sections. Dance is reminiscent of the famous "Don Quixote Suite", providing a spritely tempo, terraced dynamics, and a host of opportunities to teach Baroque style and performance practices.
