Czeched Bags Polka is one of many in this genre that the composer has written over the years drawing upon his own German-Czech family heritage. His father played in a North Dakota polka band and he himself played in a Nebraska polka band during his undergraduate years and remembers those “gigs” fondly.
The title is a play on words (word in this case being CZECH) and the composer has written a number of these with such titles as RAIN CZECH POLKA, BLANK CZECH POLKA and his ever-popular CZECH’S IN THE MAIL POLKA.
Polkas have quite a following since being introduced in the USA. While being found in the area around Bohemia – Antonin Dvorak a champion of this form – they have also found homes not only in the Mid-West parts of the USA, but in the southwest as well, specifically Texas where polka festivals are routinely held in the New Braunfels region. The music conveys a feeling of energy and has a certain lilt or "bounce" to it. Yes, he also wrote a BOUNCED CZECH POLKA.
